Review of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Culture (or lack thereof)
Star Rating - 9/4/2010
The culture in the entire Grand Strand area is severly lacking. The so called "museums" here are a joke.

I agree, and I don't. Brookgreen Gardens has a host of history, art and culture. No, granted, it's not in a brick building with dinosaur bones or another building with modern art, but NY doesn't have the Smithsonian. It's all relative. The history here is the south and antebellum era. 1.5 hrs away is Charleston, chock full of history and museums, music halls and not too far from there is Savannah.

That is true, but one does not vacation or move here for the "culture." If you are looking for culture, you will not find it here. However, one visits or relocates here for the wonderful climate, beautiful beaches, more bang for your buck housing, and life in the slow lane in general. We moved here 8 years ago from Philadelphia, a city not short on culture. From time to time I do miss certain aspects of living in a large city, but I do not miss the litter, dirt, graffiti, foul language, traffic, high taxes, etc. I guess you can't have it all... so choose and be happy about it!
